Psyche Magazine commissions Guide on the Human Givens
You may be familiar with Psyche, a digital magazine focused on psychology and mental health. One of its signature features is its Guides, “which provide in-depth, expert-written, practical know-how” on different topics, including different therapeutic approaches. Guides, which follow a set format, aim to offer accessible and comprehensive articles with advice intended to be of lasting help to non-experts and, according to its editor Christian Jarrett, “typically attract tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands of readers”.
Christian reached out to Denise Winn to ask for a Guide on the human givens approach; this was published on 24th July and is entitled: How to look after your emotional health. It focuses on the benefits of working with our innate needs, explains what human givens practitioners can offer that is different, and provides links to further information, including to the Find a therapist page on the HGI website. It should provide valuable publicity for the human givens approach and HG practitioners – do share it with others.
HG & PTSD Resolution in the news
'I’ve had six sessions and my life has been transformed. I can honestly say the treatment is revolutionary'
Major Wayne Owers
A recent, heartening Sunday Telegraph article features the story of Major Wayne Owers who came to the attention of an HG therapist working for PTSD Resolution via the paper – it highlights the charity's excellent work and brings well-deserved recognition to how effective HG therapy is – read more here >
Owers described the impact of his HG therapy, saying, "The last two months have been revolutionary. I haven't felt this happy and positive in years." He urged other veterans to seek the charity's free services.
Further coverage
This is not the only press coverage that PTSD Resolution have received of late – another article 'Force for good' by Patrick Rea, appeared in the April edition of Drink and Drug news, which is the UK's highest circulation specialist substance misuse and addiction treatment magazine, with a 10,000 print circulation and a readership of more than 25,000 as copies are passed around teams – as well as those who use its online platform. This article goes into more detail about human givens therapy and how effective it is in its approach to treating addictions.
The article was also picked up and highlighted in the Confederation of Service Charities (COBSEO) news section – so word spread even further.
PTSD Resolution are always looking for new HG Therapists to help them in their work – if you'd like to know more, you can contact them here.

Research highlights barriers to Older People accessing talking therapy
The British Psychological Society's Research Digest looks into new research that uncovers the hurdles and challenges of accessing psychological services as an older person. "According to Independent Age, around 75% of people aged 65+ have experienced significant anxiety or low mood. Yet older adults are also less likely to be referred to therapy; one study even found that younger adults were 80% more likely to receive therapy. This underrepresentation is also present in Talking Therapies (formerly IAPT), the NHS pathway for treatment for anxiety and depression, where older adults represent just 5.1% of referrals.
"This isn't just because doctors overlook older people's mental health issues, however: some people simply choose not to take up referrals. Writing in The Cognitive Behaviour Therapist, Rachel Prosser and team paint a complex picture as to why older people might not access Talking Therapies — and offer suggestions on what can be done to increase take-up."
