About me: I trained and worked as a medical doctor in the NHS for over the past 23 years, specialising as a GP. I was also an academic researcher and Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen where I taught mental health to senior medical students. I have extensive and varied experience of working with a wide range of mental health problems in a variety of settings within the NHS including general practice, accident and emergency departments, and in psychiatric departments. I have experience of mild psychological distress to severe debilitating mental health crises. I am now trained and currently working as a psychotherapist
What I do: With the aim of creating a healing relationship, I offer a non-judgemental, supportive and confidential environment in which we can explore whatever aspects of your life you may wish to better understand or change. We can work together to help you take control of your life, resolve your difficulties and increase your sense of wellbeing. I offer a solution focussed approach that works very effectively. The basis of this therapy is drawn from the Human Givens Approach. It is based on what makes us emotionally well and flourish. I use a range of evidence-based therapies and techniques.
I work with adults and young people and I am fully DBS checked and insured.
I take NHS GP referrals.
(Please note: I am not working as a private GP or offering medical services. I do not prescribe. However I am ideally placed to work along with your GP, medical or other healthcare practitioner).
