NEW podcast – with Joe Griffin
We’re excited to be able to share with you the first episode in our new “Ask the expert” podcast series. Recorded last week with HG co-founder, Joe Griffin, and Jo Baker this episode delves deep into sleep, dreaming and daydreaming – and the crucial role they play in helping us to be mentally healthy.
On the podcast, Joe shares fascinating anecdotes and insights and answers many of the questions you sent to us in response to our last newsletter. Thank you, as always, for getting in touch – we hope you enjoy the recording, you can listen to the podcast here.
NEW online course
As a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic, more people than usual have experienced extremely stressful, distressing and/or frightening events, and many are finding that it has left them with traumatic stress symptoms.
To help spread clear, helpful information about trauma, HG College has just launched a new online course – Understanding Trauma, effective treatment and recovery – delivered by Ros Townsend, a highly experienced psychotherapist who specialises in treating trauma.
Suitable for the general public, as well as anyone in in the caring and emergency professions, it helps to clarify why some people become traumatised and not others, the cause of extreme traumatic stress responses, the wide range of trauma symptoms, how to help someone who is suffering – and much more… View the course here >
Jennifer Broadley explores “no-fault divorce”
The UK government recently announced that the Divorce, Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 will come into force in April 2022. Many HG therapists work with couples navigating separation and divorce, so we asked HG tutor and therapist, Jennifer Broadley, who delivers HG College’s Couples Therapy live online workshop, to take a look at what this change will mean in practice. You can read her article here.

The HGI’s live online conference received lots of excellent feedback. Experts Ivan Tyrrell, Joe Griffin, Jo Baker, Ezra Hewing, Marion Brown and Fiona Sheldon together drew on real life examples and the latest neuroscience, to look at depression from a variety of angles – providing invaluable insights and information for both health and welfare professionals and those interested for personal reasons. The day was attended by over 500 people, and many more have watched the replay since.
The replay is coming down on 31st August, so if you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet and would like to, visit www.liftdepressionsummit.com to purchase it at the Special Offer price of just £59.
Could you work for the HGI?
Thank you for the great response we had to our request for lay people (non-HGI members) to sit on the HGI’s External Oversight Committee (EOC). The EOC is an important check and balance for HGI members and the general public in the event of anyone having concerns about anything the HGI has undertaken.
There is one vacancy left, so please do get in touch with Sue Gray ([email protected]) if you, or someone you know, would like to find out more and get involved. There is an annual retainer fee of £250 for attending meetings, with £20 an hour paid for any specific work carried out.
Peer-group representative needed – the HGI also has a vacancy for a registered HG Therapist as a Peer Group Representative on its Board (the role is shared between two board members). If you would like to know more or are interested in applying, please contact Sue Gray at [email protected] for further information.
