Further Information:
Mike is the founding Director of REM State Limited.  Based in the South West of England, REM State Limited provides therapeutic interventions and services (based on the human givens approach) for a broad range of mental health issues, and also provides specialist training for health and education professionals (both special needs and mainstream education) throughout the UK.  Mike also works with a range of organisations in developing emotional and mental health at a policy (as well as individual) level.

Mike was, until recently, Director of Therapeutic Services for TheSPACE; based in the North West of England, TheSPACE is developing the human givens approach to work within a residential educational setting for young people aged between 8 and 18 years, alongside the development of human givens-based therapeutic practice within the community through TheSPACE/Human Givens Consultancy (a dedicated therapy, education and training centre based in Kendal that was designed and developed by Mike). In his role as Director, Mike established and developed therapeutic provision across this service, and was responsible for the delivery of specialist therapeutic practice for the young people resident there.

Mike previously worked as part of the Personal, Social and Health Education team within the Devon Local Education Authority, where his work focused on the development and delivery of training for health and education professionals working with vulnerable young children. He also has previous experience of working within the Criminal Justice Service and at a strategic level within the Connexions service.

Mike is a tutor for MindFields College and an Associate Trainer for (and consultant to) the BEAT (formerly the National Eating Disorders Association), and lectures on aspects of emotional and mental health as part of Devon Education Services' Teaching Assistant Induction training and for the University of Plymouth's undergraduate programme. He also teaches as part of Exeter, East & Mid Devon’s Hospiscare training programme.

In a voluntary capacity, Mike is present Chair of the Exeter Drug and Alcohol Implementation Group (a section of the Devon Drug Action Team), and is Chair of Young Devon (Formerly Devon Youth Association), a charity that was established in 1949 to support and deliver services to young people living in Devon; since that time, Young Devon has grown to become the largest voluntary youth service in the area with a workforce of 120 paid staff and 200 volunteers
